Los Nogales has a long history of excellence but also struggle. Ricaurte Hernandez and wife Suldery Arango set out to make a name in coffee. They valued generosity, humility, and entrepreneurship through experiences on the land. They were visionaries and established new innovative farming practices eventually winning Colombia’s Cup of Excellence competition in 2005. Tragically Ricaurte lost his life due to violence in the countryside in 2013. Ricaurte’ a youngest son Oscar took the family mantle and continued his father’s legacy by continuing to innovate and create some of the world’s best coffees. Oscar has pioneered incredible processing in the form of thermal shock. A process that heats coffee to speed fermentation and crash cools it to lock in flavors.
